PETITION
TO CLOSE INDIAN POINT – NOT RELICENSE IT
The safest thing we can do for our
community is to close Indian Point; in the meantime here are important measures
that need to into effect immediately.
We, the undersigned, strongly urge the following
actions to be implemented as soon as possible with regard to Indian Point
Nuclear Power Plant:
¯ Provide full containment for the
spent fuel pools and control rooms
¯ Establish Independent back up
electricity and cooling for the spent fuel pools
¯ Move spent fuel rods into hardened
dry cask storage as quickly as is safely possible
¯ Perform a comprehensive evaluation
of the faulty inflatable gasket used in the exchange canal between the reactor
and storage in fuel pool.
¯ Consider new seismological information
prior to relicensing
¯ Extend the evacuation zone from 10
to 50 miles, as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission recommended for Americans in
Japan
¯
Remedy
the flaws and deficiencies regarding the emergency evacuation plan raised by
the James Lee Witt report
