ACTION ALERT - SPRING 2011

Thank you for engaging in the struggle to close Indian Point.

The relicensing of the reactors at IP 2 and 3 must be stopped. Even if you feel that nuclear power may offer some advantages, the reactors at Indian Point are located in the wrong place. The risks are just too great.

Here is what you can do NOW! Pick one action and do it. Or, better yet, do as many as you can!

NRC's assessment of safety performance at Indian
Point

June 2, 2011 6:30 pm

Colonial Terrace,
119 Oregon Road,
Cortlandt Manor, NY 10567

Please try to come! This will be an important meeting. The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will meet with the
public to discuss the NRC's assessment of safety performance at Indian
Point for 2010. The NRC will respond to questions on specific
performance issues at the plant and our role in ensuring safe plant
operations.
If you are coming by train and need a ride from the Peekskill Metro North station, call 1-888-474-8848.

TBA: IPSEC would like to plan a screening of To Eternity, the documentary on the Finish nuclear depository. Okolo, the place you must remember to forget. This is the film that opened in NYC in February and it is astonishing. Scientists talking about communicating with people 10,000 years from now and how to do it. Very eerie music and narration with footage from inside the facility. We are looking for a place to hold a screening. We have a screening copy. If anyone is interested we would be happy to lend it around or maybe we could have an organizers screening?

Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19 - Clearwater Revival

Riverfront Park, Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Please stop by our table and sign our new petition to President Obama and write a note to New York’s Senators, Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. Find out what you can do to help prevent the re-licensing of Indian Point for another 20 years.

###

Write to NY Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, and tell him why closing Indian Point is important to you. Ask him to use the power of his office to prevent the relicensing of the reactors at Indian Point. Here is the address: Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, Executive Chamber, State Capitol, Albany, New York, 12224. You can fax him at 518-474-1513.

If you prefer, write Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. Thank him for his involvement in Westchester County's court case to expand the criteria for relicensing. Ask him to continue to use the power of his office to prevent the relicensing of the reactors at Indian Point. The address is New York State Office of the Attorney General, The Capitol, Albany, New York, 12224. If you prefer to call, you can reach his office at 518- 474-7330.

Talk to your friends and neighbors about Indian Point. Give them the facts they don't see in the media. Share your concerns and listen to their questions. If you need help with answers, call 1-888-I-Shut-It.

If you can do more, arrange a get together of friends or colleagues focused on Indian Point. Call the IPSEC Speakers Bureau so that you can have someone there to help answer the tough questions. (1-888-474-8848)

Most people cannot spend a lot of time on closing Indian Point but everybody can do something. Empower yourself and act now!

Sincerely,

The IPSEC Steering Committee
