Peace Walkers will gather for the last leg of their walk on March 11 at the Cortlandt Metro North Station at 10:00 AM with Jun-san Yasuda from the Grafton Peace Pagoda. People from NYC who want to walk with Jun-san are most welcome. They need to arrive at the Cortlandt Metro North station prior to 10:00 AM and we will get them back to the train station after the program at the Peekskill Presbyterian Church. Peace Walkers will first go to the gates of Indian Point for a Crane Ceremony. They will proceed to Peekskill Riverfront Green for the Water Ceremony. They will arrive at Peekskill Presbyterian Church at 2 PM for a potluck dinner and a program afterwards feature Dr. Gordon Edwards and others. “WATER WALK FOR LIFE” March 4-11, 2017.
An 8-day 90-mile walk for water/pipeline awareness, in particular the Pilgrim Pipeline & SPECTRA-AIM in our region. Anyone can join the walk for a few hours, or a few days, or just come to an evening potluck and hear speakers on local issues. Volunteers are also needed for transport shuttles.
The event is in alliance with Food & Water Watch, 350.org-NJ, CAPP (Coalition Against Pilgrim Pipelines) NY & NJ, The Ramapough-Lenape, Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition, Resist SPECTRA-AIM. Organized by the Grafton Peace Pagoda,the walk is being led by Jun-san Yesuda, a well-known international activist & Buddhist nun.
The Water for Life Walk 90 mile walk starts March 4 in Carteret Waterfront Park 200 Middlesex Avenue, Carteret. People will walk from 7 to 12 miles a day through New Jersey for two days and arrive at the Split Rock Sweet Water Camp in Mahwah, 95 Halifax NJ on day 4 to celebrate a Tobacco Ceremony with the Ramapough Lenape Nation. They will continue through Suffern and will have a potluck dinner and speakers at The Fellowship of Reconciliation, 521 North Broadway, Nyack at 6pm on day 5. They will proceed on day 6 (3/9) to Stony Point for an evening potluck and speakers at Stony Point Center, 17 Cricketown Road at 6 PM. Day 7 is a rest day for the Walkers.
Day 8, (Saturday, 3/11) Walkers will meet at the Cortlandt Metro North Train Station, 2 Memorial Drive, Cortlandt Manor at 10 AM. At 11 AM the group will be at the gates of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant, corner of Bleakley and Broadway, Buchanan, NY, for a short vigil and Crane Ceremony. They will proceed to the Peekskill Riverfront Green for a Water Ceremony with Algonquin/Ramapough-Lenape representatives and arrive at the Peekskill Presbyterian Church, 705 South Street, Peekskill at 2 PM for a potluck, program and closing circle.
People are welcome to join the Walk at any point along the journey. Please check the FB event page for new information regarding the schedule. There will be a support vehicle for the last day of the walk for those who grow weary along the way.
