AXS TV PRESENTS A FASCINATING LOOK AT ONE OF AMERICA’S MOST CONTROVERSIAL POWER PLANTS IN THE TELEVISION PREMIERE OF THE AWARD-WINNING DOCUMENTARY INDIAN POINT ON

SATURDAY, MARCH 11, AT 10pE/7pP

The Event Coincides with the 6TH Anniversary of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster on March 11, 2011, as well as the Recent and Surprising Announcement that Indian Point is Now Slated to be Shut Down by 2021

LOS ANGELES – March 7, 2017 – AXS TV is taking viewers inside one of America’s most controversial power plants in the television network premiere of the 2015 Magnolia Pictures documentary INDIAN POINT on Saturday, March 11, at 10pE/7pP. The broadcast is in recognition of the 6TH Anniversary of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster and comes on the heels of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s January announcement that Indian Point Energy Center will close by April of 2021.

Helmed by acclaimed documentarian Ivy Meeropol, INDIAN POINT takes a richly detailed and balanced look at the fight over the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant, located in Buchanan, New York—a mere 35 miles away from Times Square. While the facility received support from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the aging power plant has drawn concern from critics who believe that Indian Point poses a serious threat to the 20 million people living in its vicinity and who fear that a catastrophic occurrence could lead to even greater devastation than seen at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant—which made headlines on March 11, 2011, when a powerful earthquake and tsunami caused three of the plant’s reactors to melt down.

Sitting down with experts on all sides of the debate—including the head of the Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition; a senior control room supervisor at Indian Point; the former chairman of the NRC; lawyers and activists from Riverkeeper as well as an accomplished, award winning environmental journalist—Meeropol seeks to determine once and for all if the maligned power plant can truly be considered safe for operation. With the fight for clean energy still well underway, this timely feature takes an unflinching look at the dire consequences of government complacency and offers stunning insight into the country’s potential nuclear future.
