This is very much expected, but it’s still a very big deal. Those of us who have been fighting FERC and the expansion of gas pipelines and infrastructure for many years have been pleasantly surprised by Glick’s (no relation) willingness oppose almost all permits for gas expansion in the over three years he’s been a commissioner. Even more, he has made increasingly strong statements, the latest being something like, “decisions like these are why many people see FERC as a rubber stamp for the gas industry.”
From Energy Law 360 (I can’t access the full article):
BREAKING: Biden Installs Glick In FERC Chairman’s Seat
President Joe Biden has elevated Democratic commissioner Richard Glick to serve as chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, where he’s expected to chart an agenda that’s consistent with the new administration’s goals of combating climate change and encouraging clean energy development.
Hooray!
