Gordon is an excellent, informative speaker.  Don’t miss this opportunity to hear an experienced story teller demystify nuclear power and the most seductive siren of all – uranium.

Dr. Gordon Edwards earned degrees in Math, Science and English literature at the Universities of Toronto, Chicago and Queens University. In 2010 Edwards retired from teaching mathematics and science at Vanier College in Montreal. The range of his vision, including literary, scientific, and community projects, shows up in invited talks, essays and curricula on subjects ranging from Abstract Algebra and Shakespeare, to the dangers of uranium mining, power reactors, radioactive waste and nuclear weapons.

At the age of 34, Edwards debated the 66-year-old Edward Teller, father of the H-bomb, on whether it was necessary to use fission to produce electricity. Before and after polls showed about half of Teller’s supporters switching to Gordon Edwards’s side of the question. Indeed, he was very convincing. And he continues to be.

The awards from 1985 to 2017 for his ongoing commitment to educate Canadians and others about the deadly legacy of uranium are — the Rosalie Bertell Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2006 Nuclear-Free Future Award at Window Rock USA; the YMCA Peacemaker Medallion; the White Owl Conservation award; and Peace Quest’s Canadian Peacemaker designation.

Edwards believes that, when the technology is demystified, ordinary people presented with facts about the dangers and costs will be able to decide what is best for themselves and their progeny. Most of our decision-makers are misled on the nature of these challenges.
