Sept 21 update: Today, Joe Manchin (Fossil fascist, WV) is finally releasing the details of his dirty deal. But Manchin’s new deal isn’t a sign of strength. It’s a sign of cowardice.

More than 75 Democrats have pledged to stop Manchin’s dirty deal. Senators Sanders and Markey have also pledged to vote against Manchin’s dirty deal. Most Republicans are opposed because Manchin cut them out of negotiations.

That means, all we need to do to stop Manchin’s dirty deal is to hold our coalition together in the House for a few more days, and convince a few more Senators to join us in outspoken opposition. We’re close, so close, to stopping Manchin’s dirty deal – and you’ve already signed on and taken action.

We’ve already told you how Manchin’s dirty deal is a fossil fuel bonanza. It guts the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) and the Clean Water Act, while blocking public comment and diminishing indigenous peoples’ right to free prior and informed consent. And no matter what lies Joe Manchin is telling this week, or what gullible climate peacocks in the Senate want to believe, it will not do anything to promote renewable energy or electricity transmission.

As Rashida Tlaib recently said, “we don’t owe Manchin a damn thing.” Especially after he’s spent more than a year as the (undeserved) chair of the Senate Energy Committee dragging his feet and derailing every single climate action we need – from investment in renewables to a free an fair decision making at Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

We cannot allow Manchin’s Dirty Deal to sacrifice the health and well-being of frontline communities on the altar of corporate greed. We cannot allow Manchin to trade climate stability for money and donations from the fossil fuel industry. We cannot allow fossil fueled fascists to dictate the terms of US energy policy for one minute more.

We’ve specially targeted the messages based on whether your Senators and Representatives have spoken out against the dirty deal, have not spoken out yet, or are Republicans. Every member of Congress needs to hear from us right now, but they don’t all need to hear the same thing.
