Hello all!

Welcome (or welcome back!) to the Stop New Nuclear Reactors (SNNR) working group.

As you all know by now, NIRS will be taking the lead on organizing this group into a national working group focused on networking and coordinated strategy among the groups, communities, and regions working to stop new reactor projects.

A little about me for those who I have not yet met: I have been working with NIRS as the Digital Organizer since June 2021 and I work on our advocacy campaigns. I am based in Central Idaho, where I also serve on the Board of the Snake River Alliance (Idaho’s nuclear watchdog and clean energy advocate).

Our very first meeting will be on Thursday, January 19 from 2:00pm-3:30pm Eastern (1:00pm Central/12:00pm Mountain/11:00am Pacific). We will meet on a monthly basis. I propose that we meet on the third Thursday of the month from 2:00pm-3:30pm eastern. However, this is a big group and it will be difficult to find a time that works for all. Please fill out this poll to indicate the times each month that would work for you to have a recurring call.

You might be wondering why we have this meeting scheduled for 90 minutes. Our plan for each meeting is to dedicate the first 45-60 minutes to full group business (overarching strategy, info sharing, prioritizing, etc.) and then split into breakout rooms to dive deeper into regional and/or project-specific organizing. These breakout rooms will be optional and are meant to be used as needed.

Here is your homework:

  1. Sign up for the SNNR Google Group if you have not already. This is a communication channel where anyone in the group can send and receive updates and information. You will receive an invitation to join the group in your email.
  2. Register for the Zoom meeting.
  3. Fill out the SNNR working group survey. This will help us organize a productive and useful working group by addressing the issues that most matter to you.
  4. Fill out this poll to help determine the day/time of our monthly meetings. Our first meeting will be January 19 from 2:00pm-3:30pm eastern.

Lastly, I will be out of the office for the remainder of the month and will return in early December. I will respond to all questions, concerns, and inquiries when I return, but for any urgent business, please reach out to Tim Judson, NIRS Executive Director, at timj@nirs.org

Thanks all and looking forward to working with each of you on this critically important effort.

Regards,

Hannah
