Hi all –
Today, march organizers and allies are inside the UN Climate Ambition Summit, where UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is calling on world leaders to commit to ending fossil fuel expansion and develop policies for phase-out.
You can tune in for the summit here:
10:00 a.m. EDT: Opening
1:15 p.m. EDT: Convening on Loss and Damage
2:00 p.m. EDT: Thematic Sessions
5:30 p.m. EDT: Closing
You can also watch a press conference HERE at 1:10 pm with Jane Fonda, Asians People’s Movement on Debt and Development, Powershift Africa, Center for Biological Diversity, Oil Change International, and the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty inside the UN.
President Biden does not have a seat at the table today – and declined after learning he would be prohibited from speaking due to his failure to demonstrate sufficient movement toward fossil fuel phaseout, renewable energy targets, and climate finance. He’s feeling unprecedented pressure on the global stage, and this weekend, he felt unprecedented pressure from grassroots organizers at home.
The people have spoken – we need to #EndFossilFuels now, and the person with the greatest power to do that is President Biden. The momentum to #EndFossilFuels is growing. This weekend, 75K people marched in NYC calling on Biden to stop the expansion of fossil fuels, phase down drilling, and declare a climate emergency. Over 600K people took action to #EndFossilFuels across the world, with over 600 actions across all seven continents.
We’re carrying that message into the summit today, and we’ll carry this message on to the next global climate conference at the end of the year in Dubai (and beyond!)
The coverage of our movement to #EndFossilFuels continues to be phenomenal. Help us keep up the pressure by uplifting the news hits and photos from the march and other NYC actions below:
